Need a drive nut for a T5981 milling table. Just picked up a 3 in 1 machine but the drive nut for the cross feed table is sheared off. Does anyone know where I can get one? Thank you! /

What is the make and model of the 3-in-1? Is the table a separate accessory or part of the machine?

The table is part of the machine, should have sent a better picture. Thanks for the response.

The downloaded manual I have for the very similar 5980 machine shows a separate nut and holder for the cross-slide lead screw. The holder is part number L-H007.1 - 04, the nut is L-H007.1-05 (the lead screw itself is L-H007.1-3).

Yours looks like a one-piece component? The lead screw drives it directly, not via an inserted brass nut?

BTW: I would advise against lifting it by the milling arm like that. There should be two holes in the lathe bed. They are intended for hoisting by inserting a piece of 1" bar stock and slinging it from the bars.

Thanks for the info, it is one piece no insert. Thanks for the tip on lifting. All the best.

It may be possible to upgrade, but may require swapping the lead screw too.

Otherwise, if the internal threads are still serviceable, I would consider drilling and tapping the nut and making a new part to replace the broken bit. I would use a fine pitch thread and red (permanent or studlocker grade) Locktite on assembly. The trick will be to position the table accurately while making the parts required to position the table accurately. A friend with a working machine would be real handy right about now.

Alternatively, if the diameter of the broken bit happens to align with a standard bolt diameter, one could cut the head off the bolt, leaving the required length of unthreaded shank and trimming the threaded portion to suit. The nut could be drilled and tapped with a drill press or even by hand. With great care, a centre punch and creeping up on the final diameter in stages, it could be close enough.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have recently aquired a Central Machinery 5980, only because it was free and I had a truck. However, it's missing some pieces. I need a chuck and tool post in order to use as a lathe, but I don't want to spend a lot of money! So I'm looking on Ebay and Amazon, but I don't know what type or size chuck and tool post will work with this machine. For the chuck it has a faceplate with 3 screw holes but am I looking at standard sizes? Or something unique to this machine. Can anyone help? Thanks, Tom

Most likely, the faceplate comes off and is replaced by a chuck, rather than bolting a chuck to the faceplate. Assuming what you are calling a faceplate and what I'm thinking of as a faceplate are the same thing. Pictures would help. On my machine (not a 5981, but Chinese) there are 4 bolts with the heads towards the drivetrain that affix chucks and faceplates to the flange of the spindle. Most of these Chinese machines come with a 4" chuck.

This isn't the greatest picture, but I hope it conveys the idea:

Note that you don't actually have to have a chuck to use the lathe. You can insert a dead centre in the spindle an use a lathe dog and the faceplate to drive the work.

As for the toolpost, what exactly do you have now? Just the table, or did it come with the customary combination milling vise/compound? Again, pictures might help if you are unsure. In the photo below, the black portion is the tool post, which is mounted to the vise/compound below it.
