How about some more photos of the pump, and perhaps more of a description. It looks like a Swiiss watch taken apart. Did you start with a casting set? What scale? I have never built a pump but I think I would like to make one for the tanker.

Pump

jack:

Do you want a set of PDF drawings?

the original was done by Bill van Brocklin back in the 70's

I have cleaned the drawings up and made it a bit easier to manufacture.

John K has castings for the steam and water ends. all else is bar stock.

Hi Bill
Thank you for the offer of the drawings, I would like to have a copy. It looks like a delightful little puzzle.

I'm starting to build a pump similar to that. Is it an allen 3/4" scale worthington steam pump (the one I'm building) or your own? Thanks. Also has anyone built one of those? I need some help on how to set up the bore for the the piston. Jeff

3/4" pumps Van brocklin

Post by steamingdon »

yes this pump is like a swiss watch if you would like it to work when steam is applied .As it says in the notes make all details as accurately as possible. The pump castings and prints that John K. is offering @ Freinds Models is larger. This pump is totally made from BAR STOCK no castings Required. There are some mistakes in the drawings I worked from 1972 Street & sons. Not to many folks venture into pump land as it takes time and precision to produce a dependable one. This design has proven to be a good one. This pump can be installed on 3/4",1" and small (dare I mention) 11/2" projects with great success. The only tricky or sticky part of the project is the steam end which is a maze of ports and holes. If you have problems with this the pump she will not run. I built the first prototype in 1998. I have it my Hudson.

here is another view. All materials 360 brass or 303 S.S. no rust here as it would make the pump very sick.

Drawings

Post by Bill Shields »

I will get the drawings out to you fellows when I get home next weekend.

a 3/4" single cylinder donkey would be a real bear.

Jim built one and it is fiddley as a swiss watch to get to run, and I am not 100% sure that it will stay running as things wear.

I am building 3 of these things in 3-3/4" scale for fellows, and the steam end / valving is very fiddley at that size, so I shudder to think about doing it smaller and being reliable.
