Aside from the bars, honky-tonks, and general touristy rip-off joints, there are tons of good places to eat, and you might stop in at the Tennessee Central Railway Museum and see the beginnings of the re-assembly of NC&StL J-3 #576.

If you have trouble or want info in/near Omaha and Oklahoma City let me know. I have a son in each city.

RR: Camp Creek Railroad, near Lincoln, NE. My old track. https://campcreekrailroaders.org/

Detour north, another of my stomping grounds: St. Croix RR, Hudson, Wisconsin http://www.stcroixrr.org/

Looks like you are already planning on seeing Pat McCarthy near Kansas City.

Well there is a Big Boy in the Museum of the American Railroads in Frisco, Tx. which is just a short drive north of Dallas proper. They also have a Northern.

There is a nice AT&SF 2-6-2 on display in Kansas City. There is also a railroad themed restaurant there as well. The museum about the cattle drives, boot hill, etc... is worth a look.

Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad on Hwy 30, Boone,IA. Looks like you are going right through there and you need to do something to break up driving across Iowa.

The Corvette museum in Bowling Green, KY is interesting too. It's the one that had the sinkhole.

I'd also say you are headed close enough to White Creek in MI to consider that too as a stop. Say hi to Jim when you get the Big Creek and Southern.
