Question to Builders

Post by Howard Gorin »

With the unavailability of Special Shapes to supply the tee's, ell's and other shapes that we used to purchase from them, what shapes and sizes are people looking for? There are other ways to produce these items. Depending on market demand I can look into trying to produce these products. I need some input here to give me an idea of what people want to purchase. I look forward to peoples response.

Hi Howard,

I would be interested in 1/4"×1/4"×1/32" brass angle, which I have used on numerous projects for cars and locos. I posted on here a while ago about the process I went through to make some using a fixture, but if it were available commercially I would definitely buy a bunch.

I would also be temped to buy T-profile brass, say 5/16"×5/16"×1/32".

I hope you come up with something!

Sincerely,
Adam

265 Views, one response. Is any one else interested?
I do not want to produce an item nobody will buy.

Howard, how about you provide a list of items you're considering making so that we have something to consider. For myself the part I need typically comes up when I am in the middle of doing something.

Problem that I have, and probably most others as well: I'm not sure what shapes and sizes I might possibly need until I get far enough into the project to actually need them.

I guess this is why they stopped making them commercially.

The T shape is one that is unobtainable and used on nearly every steam locomotive walkway.

That’s one I would start with.

What is the popular size(s)?

I wanted to build some stock cars in 1" scale. What is stopping me is the lack of availability of Z shape.

It's on the back burner as I have other projects in mind... But if it was available when I needed, then....

The 1/4" Tee would be a good size for 1.5" scale walkways.

I’m looking for some Tee’s that will fit 3/8” round rod for a 3” scale build?

I think you misunderstood what product he is considering offering. He is thinking about supplying long stock in T shape and L shape and maybe half-round or some other special shapes.

The Tee rail fitting is simple, what are the overall dimensions?
Also the flange that mounts the handrail stanchion to the deck.
Quantity?
