My new power run out to the garage is complete, and I've been working on 5S'ing the garage. Trying to get rid of junk, er, stuff I don't use.

Regarding the lathe, I need to make a back splash shield, and install a back side DRO scale before placing the lathe in it's "forever" position. The carriage travel scale is easy, since there is tons of room, but I need to find something a little smaller for the cross slide.

DRO pros have a very thin scale that I used.
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Experienced the 5S program. Boeing did it and then made all suppliers do it. Japan had been doing if for decades before especially in their automotive industries. Works well in a high volume production environment where families of parts are made and production can be changed over quickly to suit the needs. Bushings for example. Better than batch production. It is a difficult program to carry out on low volume production with long manufacturing times. A titanium fighter fuselage bulkhead that took 4 or more months to machine and process for example. "Invented" by Americans by the way but it took the Japanese to perfect and make full use of it before it came back.

Good side of it for me was being able to take home the stuff they didn't need/want that was destined for the scrap bin.

Another heavy sigh! That thought didn't occur to me. A bit strange, as I tend to rely a great deal on web searches. A sure sign I'm getting goofier as I age.
