Do MIG drive wheels need to be insulated?

Post by mcman56 »

I have a Miller Challenger 172 and it has had intermediate feeding issues. The drive wheel alignment is a bit off from the wire so I would like to make another drive wheel with better aligned groove. The OEM wheel has a plastic core so I'm wondering if it can be a solid metal wheel. The bearing above the drive wheel is not insulated. Is there some need to insulate the drive motor?. Looking at available spare parts there is only the OEM wheel that suits .023 to .035 wire. I'm surprised I'm not finding more.
