I've never used one but I've heard from several people that the harbor freight titanium ( green) and vulcan ( orange) series welders are pretty nice to use.

Cylinder and piston values are whacko. I would believe 1.250 cylinder and 1.225 for the Pistons.

'just pipe' is not necessarily satisfactory for a boiler. You are building a fired pressure vessel with all the intrinsic hazards associated.

Also...if you are going to to a propane fired vertical boiler .. you really should look carefully at the Connor beam engine and the flue layout he used.

Flue area for a vertical boiler can be a different critter than for a horizontal coal boiler.

Thanks Bill, I will spend some time at that series of comments. BTW - what are "Marty Burners"? Haven't found any info on that yet.

Sold by loco parts and others.

Solar burners is another industrial trade name.

If you do a search for Connor in chaski you will find a lot of information.

His boilers with some 300 flues work very well

I would read this prior to spending $.
http://ibls.org/mediawiki/index.php/Marty_Burners
Also look at these.
https://www.bayouclassicdepot.com/produ ... -brass-jet
I am not recommending either of these, I don't have first hand knowledge of either.
But, I have researched and have purchased the material to build a small mountain of the Marty Burners.
I am providing this only as a shortcut for you to help in your research.

The bayou burners are a straight jet without a diffuser on the end...and may not be what you want for this type of boiler.

I have a couple and found them to be less than suitable for this situation.
