We’ve only been running a couple of weeks. I plan to put in a crossover so we can switch directions, but for now it’s one way only.

Direction change will even out wear in the loco drivetrain.

How many hours a day do you run on an average?
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

We’ve only given a few rides to date. It has run minutes, not hours. I expect things will pick up this summer.

So nice to have friends with big toys! This loader saved me a lot of shovel loads.

We've done a little landscaping with rocks and a few drought tolerant plants this week.

Batteries and Chargers

Post by SanDogDewey »

When I got this train it came with two Lestronic II 24 vdc 30A chargers. They are for lead acid batteries.

The train runs on six 22NF deep cycle AGM batteries. The original batteries were well over 7 years old and never fully charged. I replaced the batteries this week and now am getting a full charge on them.

I contacted Lester Electrical and they recommended their Lester Summit 2 24V/25A charger for the AGM batteries. I mounted the charger onboard under the operator’s seat.

Does it have enough air circulation?

The heat sink in the back is not just for looks.

The inside of the seat box is going to get hot and if there is no way to get the heat out and cool air in...you may be headed for problems

There are vent holes drilled near the plug.

I would supply more in the way of ventilation...at both the top and bottom of the seat box.

This is really cool.

You for sure want to alternate directions -> unless your loco is set up like an Indy 500 or NASCAR racer.

I would also watch the rails for wear.

Question: how much more are your insurance premiums? I have heard that there are good guys out there that understand and work with model railroads.
