The cross head side plates are cut and squared to size and then notched with the bandsaw cleaned up to size with the mill. Locate the pin drill and ream . Set up stop and repeat

Jim...enjoy watching your progress. Will ask...have you given any thoughts on how to lubricate the slide? Might as well do that now while the parts are still not assembled. Just saying... Carl B.

Hi Carl, I have given that some thought about using a gitts oil cup centered on the stroke of the top bar. Will the bottom bar get enough oil from working it's way down I would think so after a first oiling to start off. I did put a gitts on the rocker boxes. What about the cross head pin oiling? Probable a hole with pocket in rod end. Thanks Carl for raising the question. Jim

Agreed.
'All turned 90 degrees from how I would do it., Especially because I don't have that horizontal mill adaptor.
But whatever works... I always enjoy learning from other machinists' setups.

Hi Odyknuck and Russ, the side plates are proud of the brass so the vise was the way to hold it but if I held it upright the quill of the vertical mill would not work so as pointed out before I would rather align the B&S head.
The picture shows the progress today. The crosshead sleeve is not welded to the side plates yet. The feet for the motion plate will be recessed into the bar and them motion plate notched up. Jim

WHAT THE ????
I was set up.
Well ok I set my self up. Yesterday I had one of the cross head bars in the vise and the mill on auto feed. I heard the mill motor change pitch I reached for the table feed which would not go to neutral so about the same time I reached for the power and spindle to stop and at that time something shot across the room. A quick look at the mill and saw nothing obvious found the item it was table auto stop ramp which pushes the plungers in the second picture. The set up was I had moved the adjustable ramp from left side to right where it was butted up to the right adjustable and the end of table ramp which put the back of the ramp to stop travel. Something had to give it sheared the 3/8 bolt on the end of table ramp. I moved it months ago and forgot. The second picture shows the direction lever which when rotates a gear and pulls and pushes the plungers that have a rack milled on them. Bottom line the plunger on the right was bent. Getting it out was interesting the table lockdown and an oil plunger were involved. The pin was straightened mechanically but not enough for the tolerance so it was chucked and turned a little bit and checked till it fit. The universal table center is now back on and tomorrow the table will be back in place.
Hopefully Bozo doesn't show up anytime soon again. Jim

Oh bummer!
Fortunately it looks like you have it under control and back in operation soon.
Much more complicated than the shear pin i had to replace yesterday on my brush hog. Back in operation, too.

Keep building. I enjoy seeing your progress, and your results look really good!

This is the remake of the sheared bolt which wraps up the repair. It could have been worse.
Funny Russ this morning while bushhoging I thought of posting a picture of one of the things I do In my spare time LOL. Jim
