Brown & sharpe machine
Re: Brown & sharpe machine
For thé speed i will buy a frequency concerter. Don t know thé word in english to ajustement thé speed. I build thé well on thé axis mylself i have a small lathe
Re: Brown & sharpe machine
Right now, it appears you have NO Mechanical Advantage with that motor pulley where it is.
So the motor RPM should equal the machines RPM.
Can the motor pulley be moved downward?
Probably there should be a three position pulley on the motor, if you need different speeds, but your solution should also work..

Yep, my shop has the same kind of appearance today!
I used to keep it pristine, but that was when I was younger!
Is your problem that Quill, or something else?
I assume the table cranks up and down, so, tho nice to have the quill moving, it could be locked in place.
No doubt it has a B&S inside taper, being a small machine it my be a B&S #9 or less?

Re: Brown & sharpe machine
If that machine is as old as predicted, then that bearing would be a bronze bushing?
You could press it out, and make a new one on your lathe?

Re: Brown & sharpe machine
just what I was thinking....
depending on the machine's intended use, the bronze bushing may have been all needed.
Heck, I have a South Bend Lathe from the 1950s that does not have ball bearings on the spindle -> so anything is possible.
if you look at it from that standpoint -> what you are seeing could clearly be an 'oil well' for the bronze bearing.
Pack some felt in there and make it go around at a slow speed.

Too many things going on to bother listing them.
