What function does the tray perform? Is it as it appears, made of a copper alloy? If so, Why? What purpose do the chips serve?
Beautiful job of machining, polishing and bluing. I'm not the least bit surprised!

A bit of an advancement in the last few days. Pallet stones (O1 tool steel) machined, hardened, polished and blued.

Thanks for the link, Russ. I wasn't aware that the oxide coat in question was not achieved by the typical black oxide procedure, a process I have done a few times. It all makes sense now.

Thanks Leocs!

While we are here I have a few more things completed.

The wheel train and wheels in place....

I'm now finally ready to produce the balance wheel. Since there are no documents to indicate how much weight is required to run the hairspring I have chosen it will have to be a game of trail and error.
