Can't Buy Sensor for Stirling-Steel CNC Conversion
I have yet another problem with my CNC mini lathe conversion. The specified spindle sensor is from Euro-Spec (IS12-Y4-N-OC-DC). They will not sell it to me because they have a $50 minimum. Is there some other sensor I can use? I don't even know what the numbers mean.

Here is a link. I can't find anything like it at Mouser or Digikey.

It's a standard prox switch. Just match up the specs given in the link you provided and you will be ok.

Re: Can't Buy Sensor for Stirling-Steel CNC Conversion
I don't suppose anyone would be willing to decipher the specs? I tried it on Mouser and Digikey, and they didn't have anything. Some of the terms are obvious, but others...

Re: Can't Buy Sensor for Stirling-Steel CNC Conversion
Ron Steele, the dude who sells the plans, is going to sell me a sensor. If I can figure out the specs, I will post them for future Googlers.

IS12-Y4-N-OC-DC Inductive Sensor M12, not embeddable, 4mm range, NPN, NO+NC, 10-30VDC, 4 wire cable, LED
M12 Thread - Barrel Size
Sensing head must not be embedded in metal or else it won't work
Range: 0-4mm
NPN: to switch "on" load, it closes with -24vdc
NO+NC: Black wire = Normally open, White Wire = Normally closed
Operating Voltage Range: 10-30 vdc
4 wire cable: Brown = +24vdc, Blue = -24vdc, Black = NC, White = NO
LED to show when it switches

Re: Can't Buy Sensor for Stirling-Steel CNC Conversion
The prox you linked.
4 mm range, target must be within 4 mm of the sensor face
10-30vdc range of operating voltage for the sensor
4 wire, NO NC. Essentially two "contacts" one normally open, one normally closed.
LED. Indicator light shows target detection
NPN. Sinking input. The other flavor is PNP sourcing output
M12. mm diameter of sensor.
Hope this helps.

Re: Can't Buy Sensor for Stirling-Steel CNC Conversion
I also meant to add that you can get these anywhere. Turck, Balluif, Banner, these are some of the manufacturers.
Ebay is not always the cheapest place, also Automation Direct.
Just watch the sensing range and NPN/PNP, two different wiring schemes.

Re: Can't Buy Sensor for Stirling-Steel CNC Conversion
Thanks for all the help. I know other people will be Googling this eventually, and this thread will probably be the only place where they find a quick answer.
