CORE MAKING

Post by Trainman4602 »

This is the final installment in the cylinder pattern making series. In this video I show the basics on core making.

I use the “No Bake “method. This is when you use chemical core binders instead of sodium silicate “Water Glass” to make the cores.

Although the water glass method works well they have a tendency to pick up moister if allowed to sit on the shelve for a period of time. This deterioration my cause a casting failure and we don’t what that to happen.

The cores I made in the video were failures also. This was due to old binding liquids. I will make some cores in another video.

I also show a quotation proposal that I sent to a professional pattern shop just to see how much it would cost to make. I am glad I did that.

In my last post someone said that they could make this pattern in 8 hours. Well at $1975.00 that would be $249.88 per hour. WOW I didn’t know I could charge that rate. I’ll have to rethink my product pricing.
