K36 Class lights & number boards
Gents,
I'm doing a bit of a refurb on my 2.5" scale K36. I have now after 20 years decided that it would be nice to add some detail that I never put on when it was built.
So . . . Does anybody have a drawing or any information regarding the dimensions for the number boards or classification lights for these locomotives.
Any assistance is much appreciated, hopefully I wont have to bodge it and make a size guess based on a photograph!!
Thanks
Paul

I would say contact either the Durango and Silverton Railroad 1-877-872-4607 or the Cumbres and Toltec scenic railroad 1-888-286-2737. as well as connie miracle of https://miraclerailroadproducts.com/
hopefully they all can help you with what you need paul and happy hunting.

Additionally, don't hesitate to reach out to Jeff Smith of Branchline Products - he is very knowledgeable about Narrow Gauge railroading, and has a business of selling castings. He just might have what you're looking for. He is a repeat poster on this forum.

As those types of parts were not made by the locomotive builders but by outside suppliers, they may have been common to many locomotives. Photos would be helpful.

Many Thanks to Jeff Smith who has provided a great sketch of his number board which is perfect, just the class light to go now, I'll post a pic of the refurbished smokebox when it's all done.
Thanks

Re: K36 Class lights & number boards
Richard Ulin offered a drawing of the class lights, I have it somewhere but it is not very detailed. If I recall someone on the NGDF had a drawing of them that was better.

Hi, nice looking, just curious as to how you powered the lights, we have a steam locomotive but the headlight has never been lite, we have battery capacity in the ride along car.
Thanks

Re: K36 Class lights & number boards
So I have a 12v car battery in the tender, the tender is earthed to the chassis and a wire is run the the locomotive with a connector. The wire then runs into the can with a switch and then along the boiler cladding inside a bit of copper tube. On my headlight I simply run the wire in some flexible automotive conduit so that it can move when I open the door. On the headlight I used a 12v bathroom led light and the class lights and number boards are lit with small automotive bulbs in modified holders.
Hope this helps.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, that is pretty much my plan, thinking of maybe using steel tubing instead of copper, less heat transfer.

Re: K36 Class lights & number boards
For all practical purposes, that won't keep the wire cooler under or on the boiler jacket, it will just take a few seconds longer to warm to a stable temperature. Copper or brass tube won't rust.using steel tubing instead of copper, less heat transfer.
PTFE insulated wire should be good up to about 200 C.
