Tell that to my old tractors.

And in some cases the thickness of the specified gasket is part of the equation and changing that can cause problems. Not an issue for us with our steamers but it's there nevertheless.

Actually gasket thickness is part of the calculation in live steam.

Ever built a small pump where valve and piston travel calculations include gasket thickness?
Too many things going on to bother listing them.
