Gasket Material
Re: Gasket Material
I have never fooled with cutting gaskets...always used number 2 permatex....have never had a problem, with any of them ever leaking, after many many years

Permatex #2. Greatest stuff ever invented. If you can't seal it with Permatex, you can't seal it. Use it on threads, gaskets, flanges, water, gas, oil. Fills the cavities in your teeth. Never leave home without it.

Re: Gasket Material
How easy is it remove Permatex #2? I was thinking of using it when I do my air test. Thanks!

Re: Gasket Material
Well I wouldn't use it for a temporary assembly. I'd probably use Loctite 565 for that.

Re: Gasket Material
Thanks Greg! It has been 40 plus years since I used Permatex!
Re: Gasket Material
Lacquer thinner dissolves it (Permatex) without issue.

Re: Gasket Material
Anyone here try McMaster's made to order gasket service yet? Next time I need them I will probably try using the laser cutting machine at work. Otherwise i always used the auto store gasket paper and Indian Head (has cancel culture came for him yet?) Shellac from Permatex along with an Exacto knife to trace the part. Works ok but not as nice as a machine

Re: Gasket Material
Back when I was playing with cars we'd take the gasket paper and lay it over the part and tap the paper with a rubber mallet, thus creating an outline which we could cut to. Then we'd adhere the cut piece to the part with Gaskacinch, which looks like contact cement. Haven't tried that with the little stuff we play with, but it might be worth trying.

Re: Gasket Material
Need very small hammers for some of our gaskets.
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Permatex number 2 is easy to clean, if you ever have to take it apart. Scrapers off easily with a razor blade........gaskets, are a thing of past
