Here is what I cast for rods of a 4-8-4.
I used C99700 which Kramer calls White Tombasil, which should do the job.
It is not cheap, but it is easy to pour, machines easily and takes a nice finish, and the specs look like they will work.
The Ceramic Slurry Investment Process I did over at the Art Department of the local Junior College, and the rod patterns were made originally of styrofoam.
Those rods up front have yet to be machined, and the molds in the back yet to be poured, one of the problems of having too many projects!
I have a few more to be poured at some time.

Thanks for the education. I have been around people that just call all 1144 "Stressproof". They were evidently wrong.

I used hot rolled steel, nickel plated for one locomotive,
and 303 stainless steel for my second locomotive.
Both successful.
