The area I calculated for you is the area ABOVE the arch - not the area of the arch itself.
The length of the firebox doesn't matter.

Marty:
To be clear, are you referring to the
"cross sectional area of the opening between the crown sheet & the highness rearmost part of the arch" ?
Ie., the restricted opening the combustion gases pass through on the way to the flues?
I am not clear on that.

Thanks.

I had the same question , Marty is referring to the area between the top of the arch to the crown plate .
The arch should also be angled at about 15 degrees .
I just had that conversion on the phone with him .

Thanks

The end result for now maybe in 2 years time I will see if what I have done will work , it is made to be adjustable at the moment as I have not fully welded the arch plate .
Thanks to the various people for your input and advise .
