LE 0-4-0 Valve Question

I am completing the build of a LE 0-4-0 and have a question regarding setting of the valves.

I do not have the drawings so I am a little blind, but how to you initially set the valves? Guess I am asking is how do you know where the valve should be set before moving onto the timing?

I have inspection holes and I think I have the valve centered, but it doesn't seem to be correct.

Also - does anyone have a drawing showing the liners? that is missing in my packet of drawings from the previous owner.

Wow..., good timing! I enjoy this website and happened to drop by today. I have a LE 0-4-0T. Regrettably I'll have to point you the Little Engines website for the drawings per their Facebook page comments. I took these photos today. When the piston on the left is all the way back, the valve is pretty much all the way forward and the Eccentric Crank is 45 degrees down forward (see photo). Without moving the engine, the piston on the right side is mid-way, valve mid-way, and the Eccentric Crank is 45 degrees down aft (see photo). Hopefully this helps?

Thanks for the info.

I am starting to think the valve liners may have been built incorrectly. I have air coming through the exhaust all of the time no matter where the valve sits inside the cylinder. Looks like I may have to remove o e of the valve liners to see what's up (from what I can see externally the valve and liners match the drawings Jesse sent me).

One of my Kitsap Live Steamers colleagues acquired a Little Engines Pacific that he was restoring. He could NOT get it to run properly.
He eventually determined that one it its valve liners was incorrectly machined.
Making and installing new valve liners made that loco run beautifully.
