I recall someone experimenting with plastic trucks and wheels for non-load bearing service in 3/4".
It would have pre-dated consumer 3D printers, but I think the late Miles Snyder made a fleet of four-wheel coal cars in 3/4" or 1 " scale with plastic running gear. He mentioned working on them during a long-ago trip to Alaska but they may have also been mentioned in Live Steam.

Steve Bratina made a very nice boxcar kit a couple of years ago.

Since this is the most recent thread on the topic, I'll post this question here. I'm building some of Jim Abrams' trucks and was looking for someone who has also built them.

In this thread: viewtopic.php?t=87904 are some nice pictures of these trucks when completed as shown here:

You can see in this picture that the bolster appears upside down (flat surface down) compared to the drawing that I have. There is a note saying "Side frames must be free to pivot, but not shake". So does this mean that the bolts holding the side frames to the bolster have allowed the bolster to flip upside down in the pictures, but that when connected to an undercarriage, the bolster will be rotated?

I reached out to Jim, but he may be busy. And better to post anyway for others with the same question.
Thanks,
SteveR

Yes that is exactly what you are seeing- flat surface goes up so that you can access the bolster/side frame bolts from the bottom of the car.

The flat side of the bolster is up.there are two small rollers or two "buttons "that are side bearers for the car that allow some additional flexibility .

Jim's trucks are great. They are based on a Purintin practice of truck building. I have used this concept for 40 years in 3/4, 1 and 1.5 inch and am very happy in all scales.

Trucks are very stable...you do not feel like you are floating.

Note
.Charlie Purinton used to build the side frames from wood. He also used screen door hooks for couplers but that is off topic
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Bill,
It might be off topic, but a good new topic nevertheless. Suggested topic title: "The Purinton practice of truck building"?
Thanks

Its been discussed in other threads however I will repeat the info here as the old topic is buried somewhere in this forum:

The trucks that Jim sells are exact copies of original Bill Van Brocklin patterns and design. The reproduction match plate was made by DMS.

Whether or not Bill VB based his design on a Purinton build practice I can not say one way or another.

These are the most simple and affordable trucks on the market for 3/4" scale. 8)

Finally finished these:

Now I just need to finish rebuilding the 3/4 LE Northern that will pull them, along with a tender...
More fun.
