We went there recently. Smells great - just like machine oil. Amazing to see how the darn thing works - miles of cable under the streets, all driven by the machinery in here that you can see.

It's a major source of pride around these parts, for sure. Some of us recall the days not so terribly long ago that there was actually a movement afoot to abandon/dismantle the entire system. That would have been a crime.

Recently I did a small job for a fellow who is one of three machinists who fabricate parts for and work on the antique rolling stock - now there's a cool job, eh? I'm hoping for a tour of the machine shop one day. . .
