Trying to keep myself moving on this. Still hope to fire it up prior to Christmas and do a test run next spring/summer.

I did widen the cab and tank out 2.5 inches by adding a strip of angle down each side of the platform. Added a wider front section to my mock up. Still need to look into the cab height but putting it off for now.

Also working on the backhead. Today I am working on the throttle and turret. Having to chase fittings for the turret.

Adding the two angles pieces was a simple solution for widening the loco cab and rear frame!
Nicely done.

I think you could have it running by October without too much pain

The problem is me, I get distracted by the other things in my life.

Today its back to the throttle rod and a trip to the hardware store up in Tennessee.

Hoping to find fittings along with 5/16 copper tubing.

Had a nice day, yesterday, running Pontiacguys Locomotive. Much larger than my American. Scrapped my throttle lever design after running his. Mine stood too far out from the backhead and was in the way.

New bump in the road. Med issues are keeping from the shop. Actually if I even look at the stairs leading to the shop, Lisa gives me the look of death Had an MRI yesterday and plans to see the doc on next Tuesday for a path forward. This getting old sucks. Definitely not for the faint of heart. On the good side I have lost eight pounds with only about twenty to go to meet my goal.

Really nice parts received from Jeff at Loco-Parts.

I do have a question on what type of fitting is needed to connect this gauge to copper tubbing? I am assuming I will use 1/8 inch tubing for a feed line.

The throttle design was changed after running Pontiacguys engine. Still need to make the gland nut and turn steel pins to replace the 1/4-20 bolts on the linkage. I know this is still large, but that is what I am aiming at. An engine, not to scale, but with large easy to use controls for beginners to be able to see and understand.

Today was a good day to order parts. Machined fittings from PM Research are on the way along with more of their machinable castings.

One thing I have learned on the American is that all the connections will be Silver Soldered.

I have a supply of very high quality Cadmium Solder that is outlawed these day. Works extremely well and strong. Yes I know not to breath it.

First project will be the steam line thru the dry stay for the blower.

My med issues seem to be getting better. I am told I have a 80-90 percent recovery prognosis. Also told to quit loading and unloading large bags of coal.

A member at Mid-South recommended a paint called Quick-Cast. This to replicate the graphite color on the smoke box. I decided to try it on the Fire Door.

The paint is rated to 1200 deg F and has to be cured at over 400 deg F It may burn off very quickly. We shall see.

The door is finished. I decided to copy the set up on my American, One of the few user friendly things about the American.

The door is held shut by a spring on the bottom. Once opened past half way, the spring holds it open. When closing past half way the spring snaps it shut.
DSC_6024.jpg
The fire box opening is 3x5 inches with a door and frame thickness of 1/4"

The Throttle is about 2/3 finished, needing only the finish work to make it purdy.

Back in the shop. The back is improving with therapy and the trip to see the Grandkids in Washington state was a success. MRI showed a ruptured disc and they ended up shooting a barrier jell into the spine area. Seems to have worked like a champ. Therapy for another three weeks.

While not able to be in my shop I have been working on the laptop drawing the Johnson bar/Reversing lever for the cab and ordering a small fortune in jewelry for for the piping. Sadly there is still more to order. Primary suppliers are Jeff at Loco-Parts along with PM Research.
DSC_6025.jpg
The Johnson bar is being done using the original English drawings for throws and modifying it to work with the scraps I have in the shop.

The water glass is from Loco-Parts

The injector was purchased from Barry Hague years ago when I still worked for a living. I am sure it will work, but am planning on using a couple of the EE injectors having had such good look with the one on my American. Before you ask, Pontiacguy has first dibs on this one if I decide to sell it. Piping for the injectors will be 5/16"

Plans are to run the blower with 1/4 inch tubing and an old Cole's Power Model valve.
