Hi Odyknuck, I am a home shop machinist like a lot of us here you work with what you have to try to keep the cost down but that's some of the fun. If you do look for a horizontal mill get one that has a universal head . The only downside is no quill but the rigidity and power feeds are great. Jim

Drilled and reamed holes and started on shafts

Key ways cut
Drilled hole and enlarged opening with grinder for oil.

Stepped of the holes in the mill
Broached
The ears need to be .25" . Bring cutter down at touch ,25 of your choice then down another, 005"
Now one at a time

Last shots of the brake pivot block. Once the woodruff key was seated the arms were a light press then the print called for roll pins in the bosses. Jim

While I was struggling with the mounting of the brake cylinders i reached out to Tom for pictures and Marty for explaining and finally the light went on and will get back on that Tomorrow .So way back when working on the tender trucks I mentioned brakes. There are no prints so as you can tell I like to fabricate so let's see what the start is.
Brake shoe hangers were cut out of 1" tubing
The 4 inside hangers are notched for truck safety chains.

Sharp eyes will catch that I had to saw <br />the bottom angle off and  rewelded to move the cylinder forward  to make room for inlet supply.
