Very cool! Do you have a track nearby?

Just picked up a FN over the weekend that was running on air for a friend. Boiler is brand new.

Would be great to do a FN double-header sometime at a local track :-)

Nice work Martin!
Yup, I always appreciate when my wife goes and visits our daughter and her family for a day or two. All work on the house stops and my time is spent throwing chips out in the garage.

Mike, I live about ten minutes from Indiana Live Steamers. I just joined the club last month. They have a few miles of 7 1/2" gage track and seem to keep growing. I'd love to see some pictures of yours.

In my usual way of not keeping any sort of rhyme or reason to the parts I do, I've spent this afternoon working on the steam chests and covers. Luckily enough I was able to use the Kent 2 axis CNC mill for the holes. Made quick work of it.

Just putting some holes in the covers.

All done. Well, except for the 3/8-24 holes on the ends of the chests.

I worked on the cams today. I ended up adding a bit of material around the offset hole for the screws to go into. Also ended up putting some flats where the screws will go.

I got one cylinder bored today. Now I can get started on the facing and holes for the cylinder. I cut it to 1.3735 and honed it out to 1.3750. Doesn't get much closer than that. Also came out to a very nice finish after honing.

Extra meat a good idea. I had one crack on me a decade or so ago.

Taking apart for repairs is a real PITA.

As a heads up

I have found it useful to have a line scribed on the eccentric from the center of the bore radial along the offset axis -> On the hub side of the eccentric so that you can see it once eccentrics are assembled

Bill, it's hard to see in the picture but there are flats at 0, 90, and 180 degrees from the offset axis so i can see where the eccentric is at.

That works... Bad eyes small screen.

Another trick that I use it to drill and tap a hole into which I can screw a pointer.

Hope you are not planning on putting screws at all 4 flats...

There's only three flats. But, I was only planning on using two as per the plans.
