The top half will have 1/4" insulation behind it. The bottom half is for looks. A pattern was made for the tender steps by the person who started the K-36 project back in the mid 80s. I have the pattern for it. I have all the patterns for the K-36 in 1.5" scale and if anyone is interested in purchasing all the patterns, I would be willing to sell them.

Been working on the sand dome for the K-36. The body is machined out of Aluminum and the base is stainless steel sheet. The small brass oblong shape is for the delivery pipes. This piece is what I was looking for the 000-120 hex head screws for. Well I couldn't find any so I cut down the head of some 00-90s. A bit of work but they look much better. The smaller heads I cut down to 1/16" hex. The brass odd shape is the original manual operated sanders which are not used anymore. They do make an interesting feature. I still need to mount these details to the sand dome.

I finished up the sand dome and have been working on the water column for the K-36.
Here are some photos of the progress.

Thank you Jack for your kind words. Her are some photos of the #6 Distributor valve I've been working on. It will be located under the cab on the engineers side. It is quite the puzzle with many separate pieces soldered together.

I just finished making 12 of these spring hanger brackets. They are made of three separate pieces and silver soldered together. I had some castings of these parts but they weren't consistent, so I decided to make new ones. The second picture shows how it is used.

That's interesting. Were they sand castings?

Hello Harold,

They were lost wax castings but poorly made. The area where the spring hanger fit was tight and narrow. The castings shrunk too much in that area.

Thanks, Jeff.
I can recall machining some small aluminum investment castings many years ago, when I was a young lad in training. These were held to ±.005", which I found remarkable. Comes as a bit of a shock to read your castings were not sand.

Jeff; Speaking of castings; your pattern making is superb to say the least. The bronze cylinder blocks are by themselves, large chunks of precious jewelry!
Oh yes, Jeff what do you do in your 'spare time' ?!!

I finally finished the link and cheek plates for the K-36. What a project. A tooling plate was made to help with the machining.
