Brown and Sharpe No 2 Universal Mill Question

Post by BOB4717 »

I'm hoping someone can help me: I have a Brown and Sharpe No. 2 Universal Mill which I think dates back to the 30's.....It has power feed for the table which has been disconnected; I'm trying to adjust the backlash out of the table. I can't seem to find out how that is done. Is anyone familiar with this machine?

Thanks!

The Brown & Sharpe Group is now over at: https://groups.io/g/BrownandSharpe/post

There should be a number of individuals who can give you an answer.

I rebuilt a #2 almost 20 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-sfBZWdyPA

I solved the backlash problem by buying a DRO, which cost me much more then the $500 I had paid for the mill.

You can never get all the backlash out of a conventional leadscrew. You have to learn to live with it.
