That's correct, especially for wipers. In regards to use as a filter, anything is better than nothing, including a piece of washcloth from one's bathroom or a couple layers of old bedsheet. Placed in oil cups, they prevent abrasive particles from entering a bearing.

FYI: JoAnn Fabrics carries sheets of felt in any color one could wish although it is about 1/32 thick uncompressed. (The main factory is only 2 miles from here.)

Thanks guys. I found some felt and ordered oil.
