Hi All, what is the difference between a closed end and open ended needle bearing, except for the obvious, also what is the easiest way to remove them from a truck frame?
Thanks

There is no difference except for the obvious. One is open ended and a shaft can pass thru it. The other is closed ended and one side is blind. No tricks to remove a closed if no provisions were made for removal in a blind housing. Best you can do is collapse it and extract. For an open bearing use a piece of shafting that fits well, pack the bearing with grease, put the shaft in and whack it with a hammer. Bearing will usually move out hydraulically. I've had luck doing this with a closed bearing by drilling a hole thru the closed end first. If all the needles have fallen out it is best to just collapse it.

Swearing at it helps with removal. :D

I've welded a heavy bead around the inside to remove such things. If you are not concerned with keeping it intact, just run it hot and fat, and when it cools, it can pull the OD undersize enough to remove with little or no effort.

Is this before or after you hit your thumb with a hammer?
