home shop machinist bbs

Post by ctwo »

Over the past year I've done searched on machining topics and often there is a Google search result to that bbs site.

A lot of times when I click those links, I get directed to some kind of dating site or otherwise, or some kind of pop-up site that has my browser with a message that is difficult to close.

I usually open my google links in a separate tab, so the original link is still available to me. The second time I click the same link, I'll end up at the legitimate bbs site just fine.

I suspect it is an exploit in one of their banner ads. Does anyone understand that issue or have experienced it?

Yes, especially my work computer runs all sorts of security and is behind a secure firewall. Half the Internet there is blocked off already.

I can only recall a few times in the past year where I've had such a redirect. I am for certain that the 3 out of the 3 times this has happened, I clicked a Google search result link that was supposed to go to that bbs site. At work, the offending site was blocked and I was rewarded with an internal redirect screen with the offending URLs.

I have had troubles with clicking on the Google results for Allen Models I get directed to some shoe site. I have tried other search engines with mixers results. If I type the address to Allen models I always end up in the right spot. You might want to try the same thing.

It was brought to their attention and they think the IT guys got it fixed, anyone with a fixed bookmark would not have noticed it, but a google search would cause the redirect. They think it was a corrupt plugin on the board's software.

Thanks, Mr. Randall. I was not sure if their site was the issue or if something else. If they had a problem I'm glad it got sorted out as I appreciate all the resources one can find, and there is a wealth of it here and there.
