I was also impressed with the result; when I had alu castings made in India [blanks for things my machinist was making for me], it was misshapen and had lots of blow holes.
I had some brass done, those came out quite well.
There were little shops all over doing that sort of work.

I notice the videos of foundry work in India, the workers wearing sandals, sometimes shorts. Sparks flying, I'm sure they get their burns. man power is cheap and plentiful there. The only burn I got while wearing sandals was when the furnace blower kicked a hot coal out and landed on my foot.
LOL! yah, me too. But that was just a little pot of aluminum. I figure I'll need better protection when I start doing iron cuz it's close to twice the temperature and there'll be a lot more of it. I do like to be reasonably safe.

Doing it for a living full time may be hard dirty work, but it's fun and interesting to do it a little now and then. Make unique things and then go all the way through the process and end up with a working machine out of it. If it were just the foundry business and I had to do the same ole thing over and over, making the same ole parts, ship em off to a customer. That would get so boring I'd get fed up with it and have to quit.
