4" Square to 9" round transisition questionss.
4" Square to 9" round transisition questionss.
I have to adapt a small fan into a blower flange, original motor not available anymore. So I need to make a 4" square transition to 9" OD round. Decent machinist abilities, all normal machine shop machinery available. How to go about this? No practical tin knocking experience, except for occasional 90° bends. What would be the minimum length obtainable. How to make a pattern? No CAD experience. Thanks for all help, Mark.

I bet I'm behind the curve as usual but here's how a dummy like me can do it quickly. cut a circle and a square out of any material. center drill both and attach jam nut style on a pc. of all thread the length you need the transition to be. When you roll the pattern over your metal mark the path of both pcs. allow a lap for the joint cut it out and you have it.

Great tip, thanks - for reasonable sized work that method would be hard to beat.

Why don't you check with Gene Krantz. I think he's done something along those lines a few years ago.mcostello wrote:I have to adapt a small fan into a blower flange, original motor not available anymore. So I need to make a 4" square transition to 9" OD round.
