I posted a question about fixing the wear on the vise I am restoring.

but there have been no responses because a lot of people that could answer that probably have not seen it.
Possible solutions could include welding or silver soldering a piece in, so it's more a question about that.

There goes the paint job.
I have successfully repaired vises by brazing, including repairing a cracked housing. You are going to need to heat the whole part to minimize distortion.
The opposite approach would be to use a nickle rod and arc or tig and build up the lacking area. The nickle should stay soft enough to allow machining. This method probably would be my first attempt.
