Highly unlikely occurance attributed to repeated pressure causing fatigue because of location of failure. Pressure in a firearm like electricity, water, and all other things having to do with a driving force of any kind. Always seeks path of least resistance. Which would be the side wall of the cylinder. I've seen numerous revolvers "blown" from over pressure loads. And that is where they blow.

Much more likely that the revolver in question was incorrectly timed and the slugs were pounding the forcing cone rather than entering it in proper alignment and making a smooth transition from cylinder to barrel
