hexagon mauser action

Has anyone else seen this on gunbroker large ring mauser action with front ring cut to hexagon shape on top. I was wondering if there is enought material there to do that with out weakening the receiver?

you would weaken the rcvr if you cut it like that but you could make a hex sleve to go over the rcvr and
soft solder it on.
