Re: Engraving need , laser or rotorary or etc.

Is there a reason why you want to make plates for the VIN rather than using stamps on the frame of the trailer ? I ask because it would be very easy to remove a plate from the frame if the trailer were to be stolen, whereas the stamps would make a permanent marking in the frame. Even if the numbers ...

Re: Drilling question

I would use an end mill to make the hole, stepping up in size if need be. A letter "F" drill will give you a theoretical thread depth of approx. 77% . If you were to stick with the 5/16 hole generated by the end mill, the thread depth would be around 86% Woops! Somewhere the actual size h...

Re: Monarch lathe

Now if you wanted a 10ee but it wasn't quite big enough, take a look at the 13ee that Monarch made. Do a search on Google. It's a 10ee on steroids. Not sure what type of drive it has, but I foresee one of these in my future.

Re: How much would all this be worth?

Not saying it is scrap....just not worth scrap value. Ocean City, MS was partially flooded in 2017. Don't know if the machines were in the flood or not, but it would take an enormous amount of work to clean the machines up, and you have no idea what things on the inside look like. Perfect for the pe...

Re: 1/2 - 12 tap

I have a 1935 Machinery handbook that explains the 1/32 number on the tap.....except that I don't know if I am understanding it. There is a chart ( First page in the tap section of the handbook) for pitch diameters of US screw threads 1/32 is top of one of the columns. Follow the column down to 12 t...

Re: not how they teach you to do it in school

Are you asking if this is an acceptable method of tapping? The answer is yes and no. Power tapping is acceptable using the correct taps, don't use a hand tap. Are the holes through the material or blind? You also don't want your RPM to high. Some drill presses don't run slow enough.

Re: HGR industrial surplus. Euclid Ohio

HGR is making extra money by shipping their machinery. I think that is how they help make up for the low prices some things sell for. Expect to pay at least double what it really should be. I bought a hydraulic pump unit from them a while back , shipping cost was extremely excessive. Only way I will...

I have one that was sold by Milwaukee tools. I found it in a bag of tools someone tossed out in the garbage.

Re: Logan 11" Lathe

They are good lathes. I have a 11" pre WW2 model and have done quite a bit of machining on it. Only issue I am aware of with the Logan lathes is a tendency to break teeth off the gears in the headstock. Several in my lathe have been repaired. I am about to replace the spindle bearings in mine a...
