Re: old photos
Here are three more photos at the Lafayette track. Not sure who the owner/builder is of these engines: Lafayette.jpg This one is, I think, built by Adam Kroam (sp?): Lafayette_3-4_440.jpg And the final one is Bud Titus with his NYC Hudson on the concrete arches: Lafayette_Buds-Hudson.jpg I have mor...

Big Boy is still oil fired. The removable coal load can be installed for pictures. Tom thanks tom, it's still a great looking and sounding engine. it sounded great in steve's booths vhs tape 20th century steam when you had a huge freight train behind it and you were just cresting into that S curve ...

Re: old photos
Here are some oldies from the Midwest. These are photos of the track at Lafayette, IN, taken by "Bud" Titus of Mattoon, IL. I'm guessing taken sometime in the 1950's. I don't know the names of almost all of these individuals, nor who built these engines. The last photo is of Dr. Youngdahl...

Re: steam channel
Perhaps we should turn off the internet for a while so people will go outside to play. Humor aside, I think this is a key issue in the hobby and in general. People aren't interested in playing outside anymore. i would agree with that, that too has defintely impacted how we as a society function. i ...

Re: steam channel
what kind of coal burner do you have harold? I don't actually own a coal burner, although I have a dismantled Little Engines Pacific that had been converted to oil burning (used to be a coal burner) long ago. The engine was owned and dismantled by Lee Carlson, who willed it to me upon his demise. H...

Re: steam channel
It is obvious, at least to me, that the hobby is definitely changing (or has already changed), and for good reason. How many readers can honestly say they remember live steam when it was the norm on the railroads? The younger generations have no memory of them, so they have less of an interest, alt...

Hi Everyone, Very timely photo of me and Big Boy. I sold Big Boy to a gentleman in New Zealand 6 years ago. Re: steam channel
So, what I got from the video was: The hobby isn't dying, but there are fewer people who are building steam locomotives, or who have the skills necessary to do so. The majority of people entering the hobby now are building diesel and electric locomotives, and are much more likely to purchase kits o...
