Re: boiler wash

My two cents is simple: A basic boiler wash has never hurt. Scope your boiler and see what it looks like inside. Worst case, even if it wasn't the best wash ever done, you did something. And it won't take too much time to do either. believe me if it was up to me i would in a heart beat. but my dad ...

Re: boiler wash

Re: boiler wash

thank you everyone for your feedback. my dad and i have been going back n fourth on this and now we are wondering if doing a boiler wash is really necessary at this point. our boiler has done well for going on 30 years of service. there is no leakage inside or outside of the boiler. the LSB8000 is d...

It sounds like you really care about the loco (as y...

Re: boiler wash

Interesting Assume that it was Fred that advised use of galvanized tubing during initial construction? Answers to Marty's questions will provide proper responses to your initial query. As a matter of personal interest: Do you know the chemical make up of the water on which the loco is frequently ru...

Re: boiler wash

Steel tubes are common...but galvanized water tubing ☹️ No idea how he would have made a roll fit into the tube sheets since galvanizing varies greatly in thickness. Nylon shims...I understand and have actually seen that used by others to help reduce stiction in leaf springs. Thx no problem bill. y...

Re: boiler wash

Just a question -> Galvanized water tubing? In the flues? yea acoording to my dad dave sclavi cut alot of corners with our hudson so instead of putting in copper flues. he used galvanized water tubing for flues and they crapped out after only 4 years of service. that was when we had fred boufard re...
