Re: Boiler water treatment

of what real value is an oxygen scavenger once a boiler has been drained and opened to the atmosphere?

if the boiler is kept under pressure, on-line or full of water and sealed (not open to the air), oxy scav is of value.

Re: Boiler water treatment

the best suggestion is to fix what you have - test the water and treat what is needed.

no 'fix in a bottle' is good for all situations.

Re: Tom Thumb boiler diameter

consider gearing and gear center-lines (which include axle center of rotation)

if you push the axles down...gears become fans because teeth do not mesh. Redesign is required.

You also have to consider the ash pan and getting it to clear the tracks..with smaller wheels it will 'drag'.

Re: Just another Ball Screw Help

the fact that the balls 'got loose' in the first place indicates that you may need more than just a 'ball refit.' suggest you send the entire unit to someone who does this for a living. The balls are not just size for size....every one I have ever worked with were under a little bit of compression t...

Re: Riddle Me This

PINK or florescent green? :o

all valves on ASME vessels have to have certified designs.

Nucs are yet another level up from that, but not as much as you would think.

after all....they are just high-tech boilers....

Re: Arch design

that being the case, then just make it like you would an arch for a coal burner.. big question is how are you going to anchor it in the firebox? typical is at the bottom of the throat sheet, made of one piece. The need to remove it is much much much less than with a coal burner, so I would worry les...

Re: Arch design

arch design depends on the position / height / orientation of the burners. got a drawing / photo? putty around the edges....depends on where the burners are / pointed. my 3/4 Hudson has 7 burners under the throat pointed toward the firedoor. arch is quite loose around the edges...but very effective....
