BTDT

I found the teeth of the saw got filled with swarf pretty quickly when I used to do this. Had to stop and pick up the cutter and blow out the chips every couple minutes, or it was just riding along on the swarf. Also the hole saw would heat up, expand, and try to grab. It was suggested to me later t...

"Color of a Brisk and Leaping Day" - LOTS of shortline action and equipment. Supposed to be about the demise of the Yosimite Valley RR but was actually filmed on another nearby road.. I forget which..Sierra? Has Henry Gibson - he does NOT fall over on a tricycle in this one.. if you catch ...

Alot of older books simplifiy this -

(4) SFM/dia. = RPM

You'll be running about 5% slow, but you can do this one in your head. Close enough.

Greg, thanks for that photo, that will come in handy for setting the journals/bearing carriers in the RTV in the journal boxes. I don't know whey I always think "steel" when MDF would make a fine jig. As I said above, I made dies and made my bends on the press. Your way looks like it would...

congrats!

I am just starting on mine, that's exactly what I needed to hear, a story of success.

Current wife just served me papers, maybe I'll have another to "drag out of bed" by the time I'm done. Or maybe the cat will want to come see.

braces..

Rob, It was really no problem to start with flat bar. First, you get a hydraulic press. Then spend a day or so making the chinee peecy crappee work right. Then a half a day milling out some dies for bending. Still had to tweak them in the vise a little, but I can crank em out now. I used 1018 for th...

thanks for the sage advice on "re-kitting". I had planned on loctite, maybe that's not a total solution. The last thought I had was to just drill out some sq. nuts, cut the hex off, bevel end, and weld to the sq. nut to the bolt shank. The journal lid ideas sound pretty good, I am wishing ...

source for No. 10 square head bolts or dbl end studs?

I found boltdepot.com has 10-24 sq.head nuts, but I cannot find the bolts to match, or even dbl end studs. I could make the studs, but it would eat alot of time, and I'd rather have the bolts. This is for journal box bolts on some home brew arch bar trucks.

thanks in advance

Horror Freight hydraulic press

I bought one of these for about 1/2 retail from a guy locally. Don't know that I would have paid twice as much, it's a piece of junk as purchased, I verified the same errors/problems on one in the showroom after I got mine. The ram was welded on about 2 1/2 degrees out of plumb. Of course, there was...

No idea on the exchange rate either, but I see smallish vertical only mills going for well north of 1000 US frequently. Horizontals go for alot less. You got both. I don't get the price differential, I have a horizontal about the same size as that Hercus, also have a vert. head for it, I'm sure one ...
