Re: Name the Mystery Character
Here is the original image of Budha Bill so folks don't have to turn their computer monitors upside down and a close-up look at the hand-painted art on the tender.

Re: Alternative Fuels
Most wood pellets are made of sawdust compressed with a binder (glue). You will curse yourself trying to clean the flues after burning them in your locomotive.

You can also easily make yourself a set of miniature nut drivers from Allen cap screws. Silver solder them to a stem, and add a handle of your choice such as a simple "T".

It was a nice Meet with many old friends and a few new ones were made. The hot to chilly & wet weather didn't bother the hearty Canadians. LOL

Re: Steam loco wishlist (If only)!
Very interesting original boiler design!! Would love to know some theory on that. The original boiler was a traditional firetube locomotive design. Somewhere in its life, that was replaced by the water tube boiler but never completed to operational condition. I have photos of it but that should be ...

I'm not quite so sure that yours is the only X-10 inspired loco- https://flic.kr/p/GXMfBA (There are a pair of videos there too, dad conveniently decided to run for an extra hour, left me a bit shy on fire, but the trees made up for it...) Though "inspired by" is probably a far better way...

Re: Steam loco wishlist (If only)!
Is it operable today? I'd like to see pictures of the locomotive, no matter the condition. I suppose it's too much to ask in the original drawings for his locomotive are in your possession? (1) I have built a brand new copper boiler for it as it came into my possession with an odd water tube boiler...

The CNR 4-6-4T was fairly small, but the compact design made them perfectly useful for tight radii, economical to operate, and easy to transport. They were bi-directional and could handle short trains with speed. Just beautiful lookers and distinctly Canadian. I have CNR X-10 No. 46 in 3/4" sc...

Re: Grid of bars above propane burner
So . How do these bars conduct heat into the boiler if they are not touching the shell? From someone (me) who won't even use a propane BBQ… I would think the grid is keeping the heat inside the firebox for a longer period of time than if the heat simply escaped down the flues by heating up. It is t...

Some people hire a landscaping company, some people buy their trees and flowers at the garden center to plant themselves, and some people grow everything from seeds and clippings.
The same goes for live steam locomotives and hot rods. LOL

Some of us at my club have switched to swimming pool PH- powder (sodium bisulfate) mixed with water with very good results.
