Re: General Washington's Continental artillery -

Thanks Harold, The new photo posting feature sounds great. Hopefully this will alleviate my iPad problems. I don't understand why Apple has never developed a simple photo editing app for their iPad and iPhone . I have quite a few pictures of the artillery and would love to post them, I'll wait until...

Re: General Washington's Continental artillery -

We are now visiting Gettysberg Battlefield - located maybe 120 miles or so SE from Valley Forge. The 12# Ordinance Cannon on display along Cemetary Ridge all have the elevating screw mounted on top of the Casson, with the four point adjusting handle resting under the breech - exactly as several have...

Re: General Washington's Continental artillery -

Probably not going to build a canon, although sure is tempting. I did find a lot of info on the internet about artillery in the Revolutionary war period. Capturing the big guns on the battlefield was a relatively common occurrence, as they weren't mobile to any degree. Even if the smaller cannon 2-4...

Probably will tighten up when the engine gets up to operating temperature -at least allow you to tweak the compression on the compression nuts.

General Washington's Continental artillery -

Visited Valley Forge earlier today. Here is General Washington's "artillery Park" display of six pounders set up by the Park Service. On closer inspection, the gun barrels appear to have been elevated for firing by use of a 1" acme thread mounted under the breech, or something very si...

Re: Rust removal

Yes the electrolysis method works well. In my experience the black sludge residue it leaves takes as long to clean off as if I just wired brushed it down in the first place. For some unknown reason, washing it off doesn't work well enough for me when I want/need bright, clean material to work with. ...

Re: Rust removal

Ospho also works... Phosphoric acid. Cheaper than evaporust usually. Both this and evaporust leaves a surface residue you can sort of leave alone until using the material.

Re: Equalizer Fulcrum Machining Help

I had an end mill bend once . Cheep poorly made Asian imports from Grizzly tools. They looked perfect, but we're NOT HSS end mills - just looked like end mills! Actually bent two from the same order, all in a matter of five minutes. Very discouraging. But don't be dismayed by junk. As others have sA...

Re: Die grinder versus pencil grinder??

"Any recommendations?" Learn how to weld! That likely sounds hard nosed, but the easiest way to clean up a weld is not have arc burns, spatter etc. there in the first place. Perhaps you are using an inappropriate filler, or technique, poor initial arc/puddle settings. If you have a situat...

Re: Die grinder versus pencil grinder??

Thanks all for your replies. I didn't consider the exhaust and flying chips issue that Gary talked about. Gary, what do these exhaust hoses work? Are they like a shop vac hose connected to a blower or have some kind of external draft???

Thanks
