Re: Bearing race nomenclature

This may sound totally off the wall...but what you are looking to do is 10 minutes worth of work for a cnc lathe once setup. Even at $100 / hour machine time you may be better off to bite the bullet than go through the aggravation and $ to try to make what may turn out to be marginal at best. If tha...

Re: Aflas o-rings

giggle...viton not Vinton -> bobby would not survive long in steam.. at 100 psi or less, the difference between Viton and AFLAS is a moot point. I am experimenting with AFLAS but have 100's of pill bottles of viton rings that have served me well for 40 years and cannot remember of a viton failure th...

Re: Rough 3/4 Scale Tom Thumb Locomotive Restoration Help Needed

depends on what is there...which is difficult to tell after the fact.. it is going to be silver solder for sure -> generally 25% silver minimum for boiler work. if it is currently soldered with sil-fos then another think is in order. This is something that someone who's 'been there / done that' with...

Re: Rough 3/4 Scale Tom Thumb Locomotive Restoration Help Needed

polishing is generally OK as long as you don't hone and make it bell-mouthed in the process..

soldering for repairs on joints is OK if you can get it clean and use the correct solder.

a crack i a run of solder...not sure what that means.

Re: Super scaled economy injector question

Any paint would prove the point of porosity.

Better yet...plug up all the holes and put a few psi of air on it and submerge...like looking for a leak in a tire
