Repair: Our 38 year-old front door latch mechanism just got some R&R in my machine shop. The latch itself was worn until pushing it all the way down barely unlatched the door. I took it apart and discovered the bronze latch had a replaceable steel button that was worn down! I turned a new button...

Good idea for the complete rebuild with the new water jet cut frames. You will have a superior locomotive when completed. Is Steve Alley prepared yet to offer parts and prints to change the valve gear to Baker or Walschaerts? That would be a huge improvement for long term valve accuracy and decrease...

Caution on using the drill rod. The heat of silver brazing will result in the rod becoming dead hard after cooling. The rod/pins can easily break if stressed. That happened to be on a project. If you plan on tempering the rods after the brazing operation, the required heat is likely to melt the silv...

My experience with conversational programming CNC machines certainly was pleasant.
And those machines could also use CAD-develpoed tool path instructions, downloaded into the CNC machine.
So: both worlds.

Keep some clearance at the ends of the die block to prevent any possibility of pounding.
