Nice job, Jim.
Did the base experience any distortion?
I'd think a little rubbing with steel wool would remove the slight discoloration.

Re: MODELTEC MAGAZINE
I believe they're out of business, and have been for some time now. The link doesn't work, which makes sense if they're gone from the scene.

Re: Gashing of a 4 Flute End Mill
The difference between an air bearing and any other type is staggering. I'm not suggesting the others don't work, but they're much more difficult to use. Weldon is a known maker of the air bearing type, but they also make an almost identical unit that does not use air. It's better than the type with...

Re: Gashing of a 4 Flute End Mill
I'm not sure I'm seeing signs of grinding on the tip, front face of the tooth, but if so, that should be avoided. When your wheel makes contact with the very tip of the cutter, you change the effective cut of the end mill. That yields a slight angle in the cut when you use the periphery of the end m...

Re: Gashing of a 4 Flute End Mill
Hi Harold, would you tell us some more info about the diamond dressing. I just got a B&S Microgrinder up and running and having a problem like your describing. Getting hot with only a couple tenths cut. I thought diamond was the way to do it and was blaming the old wheel for the problem. What w...

Re: Gashing of a 4 Flute End Mill
Thank you Harold. My pleasure! I was afraid I didn't provide anything of substance due to the various grinds that are acceptable. I have a Quorn T&C grinder which is quite different from the Clarkson. My brief stint in cutter grinding (in the 60's) was on Cincinnati #2 cutter grinders, which ar...

Re: Gashing ? What's Gashing
But what is "Gashing an End Mill"??? The end of an end mill must have a given amount of metal removed in order to sharpen it so it will cut and have chip clearance. The gashing process is a part of the removal of that metal. There are various methods one can employ. One of the simple ways...

I thought that sucker slipped right out perfectly, Willy. You couldn't have stated it any better.

Re: Using Cut Off Saw as Vertical Band Saw
In any event I wouldn't trade my vertical for a horizontal - no how no way, but it's all a matter of the kind of work we do. I can see great advantages to a horizontal for versatility. Yep. I spent the first five weeks of my apprenticeship running a DoAll, sawing out components for the first three ...

Re: Gashing of a 4 Flute End Mill
I am assuming you want to deepen the flute. I think he's talking about rebuilding the end of the end mill, which is a very common procedure in the scheme of things. There's no single answer to his question due to the various methods, all of which are functional. Regardless of the configuration chos...

Re: Using Cut Off Saw as Vertical Band Saw
You recieved a vertical table that was about four inches square. This was completely useless for locomotive frames. Chuckle! Hearing that, I'm afraid I'd have to disagree with me, too. The table for the Wells A7 saw measures 10" wide and 8" deep. Very small, but certainly better than not ...
