Re: Free-horizontal mill and south bend shaper
That is a beautiful mill! To big for my little shop.
Someone needs to adopt the mill.

Re: WTB Rockwell vertical milling machine
Harry, you might also want to include Centex in your search. Predecessor to the Rockwell (Rockwell bought Centex), head and drive system is different.
Less common but they do turn up.
Good luck.

Re: Motor for my Craftsman 101.07301
I'm sure the OP has solved his problem by now. Yesterday I noticed I still have an original Atlas-branded 1/3 HP motor as was sold originally with these lathes. If anyone else is looking PM me.

Re: Adjustable chucks
I prefer chucks with 4 adjusting screws, because you can dial them in closer than with 3 screws. The adjust true chucks that I have used with 3 screws will only let you dial in to .0005" and no closer. I saw no difference in results, but I'm not very good with a 4-jaw like some are. I can't th...

That sure does not look compatible with U.S. power systems.

Re: Motor for my Craftsman 101.07301
That 07301 Atlas is the early 618 with bronze sleeve bearings. The later 618s had tapered roller bearings. Most of these seem to end up with 1/2HP motors, but the manual recommends 1/3 HP, which is plenty. The OP has a friction issue if that motor won't run it. disconnecting the belt and turning it ...

Re: Show us your lathe!
I don't know if I've played this one, so here's mine: Logan 9B-28-1 is my "home" lathe, I found this in a backyard covered by a ragged tarp and rusty as heck. I spent around 2 years getting it back in shape. Turned out there was a very unworn machine under the rust. I have since mounted th...

Re: Adjustable chucks
Thanks Harold. I was about to post this on a FB group, but I decided I'd rather support this forum with my content than Mark Zuckerburg. I reached out to Pratt-Burnerd to see if they sell outside jaws for this chuck. I am not even sure if this is the same company, but I'll see what they say. I do kn...

Adjustable chucks
I have had Buck Adjust-tru chucks on my lathes for years, 6" on my 11" Logan PM, 5" on the Logan 9B, and a 4" on my minilathe. They serve my needs very well. Hard to beat a 3-jaw that you can adjust to .001" TIR. adjustment is a bit fussy, and I chase my tail quite a bit get...

Re: Mitutoyo Digital Caliper
The Mitutoyo are pretty much the gold standard in industry.
That said, everyone should be aware that there are some very good Chinese counterfeits of this tool. Google it for ways to identify them.
