does anyone make a speed/feed wall chart?

I was wondering if anyone made a large wall chart showing feed and speeds. Something like the large wall charts that show number, letter, and fractional decimal equivalents. I need to get better about using the proper feeds and speed for different metals and figured this would be the best way. I hav...

The Myford is not suitable for decent barrel work. A 30" bed is too short for working on a steady, and the spindle bore is too small to work in the headstock. Most accuracy work these days is done through the headstock. On short barrels you cna chamber off a steady on the Myford, but you are th...

in lapping, the grit sticks to the "soft" and scratches the "hard." But the soft will also be changed dimensionally.

well, several things are or could be going on. For one thing, take the 3 jaw off. You do not wnat it for precision wors. Use a center, face plate, and dog to drive the piece. Mandrels can spring away from the tool as you remove material. You can also spring it by putting too much pressure on the tai...

I only need a shank about 1" long-can I do this with a #2MT? How do I get the MT out of th eback of the center to turn it down? What I am doing is making a set up to turn tapers and not move my tailstock after getting it aligned. I am doing this by using a boring head in my lathe tail stock and...

need a live center with straight shank

I am looking for a small live center that has a straight 1/2" shank, as opposed to a Morse taper. Does not need to be super-accurate. Any one know ehre I can find this? I have been looking every place I know of and have not found one.

Thanks!

Jet 13x40 gear head, then spend the rest on a DRO, Aloris QC toolpost, maybe a 6 jaw chuck, a lot of tool holders, indexable carbide tooling, tool stock for form tools, grinder for form tools (both carbide and HSS), dial and test indicators (at least 3 or 4) with magnetic stands, calipers, 0-6"...

Re: Has anyome made their own full lenght sizing die?

for BR, you can get away with the chambering reamer, BUT these guns are set up for the bolt to close on a crysh fit of the case. If you plan on shooting the rifle anywhere other than the range, then you need to use a roughing reamer as stated, or another reamer that is slightly smaller. Folks get to...

S-7 is very good for firing pins. use it as-is. S-5 is also good. Both of these are shock resistant steels

I second Lassen. If I were to go to a gunsmith school, it would be Lassen. THere are short courses of one or two weeks offered at several places in the country. Trinidad CO has what is probably the most widely know gunsmithing school in the US. I'd call th efolks at Lassen and talk to them about it....

This has to be the most traveled BS story in the brief history of the internet. THe guy shot the bear ha swritten a magzine article about it (Big Game Adventures a couple of issues ago) and he is online and participates in several BBS's on hunting. He even laughs about the BS that surrounds this sto...

Re: proper sized 4-jaw

unless you have a specific need for it, I say get the 8". THe 10" weighs probably 2x the 8". It is a pain to put on and take off, PLUS with the smaller lathes like you are talking about, rotational mass really comes into paly. When the speed increases and things are not balanced, then...
