Re: question i have

PilotBug, Get a copy of "The Pennsylvania A3 Switcher" by Hiraoka. Although it describes a 3/4" scale machine, it has information on scaling to 1-1/2" scale. It's a good introduction to what you will need and a whole chapter on what's required for a workshop. Note - you don't have to buy everything ...

Loco-Notes by Gary Kubicek

I was recently given a set of "Loco-Notes" written by Gary Kubicek. I've searched Chaski and the web and found nothing about them. Searching is complicated by the use of the "-" in the title. loco-note image.JPG I only have up to volume 3b. Are there more? Anyone remember the history of these? Thank...

Re: Favorite filler for cast iron?

I've had good luck stick welding cast iron with this high nickel rod (ENi-CI (Ni99))from Mcmaster #7973A612. Get everything nice and toasty with a torch (sooty and then burn it off), weld, then cover with a fireproof blanket when done to let it cool down. Machines well.

Thanks

Re: Old tools

OK that's been a lot of fun. Everything is gone or spoken for except: Electrical tools electrical and tube tools.JPG I found a lock for the Kennedy at McMaster and traded it for a drill press. Donated all the money (almost $200) to charity. Which goes to show that one man's junk is really another ma...
