Re: Show us your lathe!

Not so long ago I got carried away with woodwork and recently finally decided to buy a lathe specifically for woodworking. I found a good article, but since I don't have a lot of experience, I can't choose the right machine for my needs. Maybe someone can tell?

Re: Moving tooling

When my father (retired cabinet maker) had to move he made a dozen or so boxes for his books and magazines from plywood and solid strips in the corners. He incorporated handles on the ends. They were about the size of milk crates. They stacked and interlocked but had no lids. I used them when I nee...

Re: Moving tooling

For moving heavy equipment, it is best to drive a lift and use sturdy pallets. Although the pallets can not withstand the entire load.

So it's easier if something is inexpensive and can be bought for everyday use.

Welding helmet

I am looking for a quality welding helmet. You need one to be lightweight and at the same time durable. I look at this article https://homemakerguide.com/best-welding-helmet/, but some models remind me of helmets of the guards from Star Wars. Can you tell me which one is better to buy?

Re: The random things we find

I've been doing some clean up trying to make room to buy a new lathe , found this guy in a pile of stuff . I know where it came from , my dad worked for the rail road back in the day . But with bad blood and not haven spoken to him in 30 years or so I have no clue how it ended up in my junk pile . ...

Re: Moriya Stirling Engine Build

It looks good, the work is neat. Do you have a complete drawing of the device in order to understand how many more spare parts you need and what shape they should be? Thank you, Kay_B. Yes, I'm working from a complete set of plans. There's a link to them in one of the earlier posts in this thread. ...

Re: Moriya Stirling Engine Build

Progress Report #14: Power conn rods and crankpins done. I deviated from the drawings again a little bit with the crankpins by threading on a little plastic bushing to avoid another aluminum-on-steel bearing. Actually the article that accompanies the plans hint at this idea, so maybe it's not compl...

Re: Setting up a basement workshop (ideas wanted)

I'm not sure I'd agree that such a machine isn't needed by anyone. Those who are left handed might benefit nicely, but being right handed I don't know that that's a valid thought. However, it's not that simple, as the problems associated with such a change border on insurmountable. One of the consi...

Re: Setting up a basement workshop (ideas wanted)

I am having a little trouble wrapping my head around the chuck being on the right side in the article picture. You are not alone. The only thing that makes sense is that the photo originated from a negative, which was reversed. Or, perhaps, it was mirrored (electronically) inadvertently. In any cas...
