Re: Nelsons Locomotive Works
A few years ago, I was looking at building a disconnect log truck similar to Nelson's design. Fortunately, I had saved a copy of that project on my computer in it's entirety with pictures and drawings. Now I am looking at possibly building a skeleton log car based on Nelson's design but I didn't sav...

Re: Is buying a part finished project worthwhile?
I purchased my partially completed 1-1/2' Heisler (a scaled up Kozo design) several years ago from a man who could not continue it due to illness. Most of his work was very good. Some was not so good. Being my first steam engine project, it has been a good learning experience. In retrospect, I think...

Locomotive Color
In painting a steam locomotive, is it best to use a satin or gloss? I have painted some pieces on my project with gloss black and others with satin black. The gloss looks good but the satin looks more like an engine that has been in use for a while and not freshly outshopped. Your thoughts?

Re: How’d you get here?
Like many others, I also have had a lifelong interest in trains. As a teenager, I also sent for catalogs from Little Engines and Winton (whose ads I had seen in magazines). They were neat but nothing came of it until about 25 years ago when Bill Pepper senior, a fellow member of a railroad history g...

Kozo Heisler Lubricator Question
I am currently building a 1-1/2" Kozo Heisler and and have a question for anyone that has built a Kozo Heisler in the past. The oil piping from the lubricator on the front truck to the connection to the throttle assembly on top of the boiler is shown in the book to be one continuous pipe (with ...

Nelsons Locomotive Works
I've noticed that sometime within this past week, the web site for Nelsons Locomotive Works has gone down. Has anyone else experienced this also? It would be a shame if this has disappeared permanently.

Re: What’s the plan?
My plan is to continue work on the Heisler but my wife's knee replacement surgery (and following rehab) late next month is going to limit shop time for me for a while.

Re: Future Project Research- Side Dump Car
The video of the 7-1/4 gauge car looks functionally close to what the car in the original post might have been.
