Re: IS our hobby dying in Canada?
Colby, Some of what you say is true about 1" scale. We have a fine ground running track here at FLLS. Yes the equipment is easy to handle or transport. But I think one catch is the work to build or maintain a 1" steamer is about the same labor regardless of the scale you build. We have a p...

Re: news
A nice looking product, but many will have to wait for later design changes. Kulp rail, which was used a lot in the northeast uses a 11/16" foot for the rail, so this would not fit. Now they are selling for 1" tie plates with 11/16" foot as an option. If demand supports it, I'd guess ...

Re: IS our hobby dying in Canada?
Ccvstmr, I think another is this comment you made: Nobody said one is going to build a museum quality model the first time out of the gate. I suspect one of the other things about many people today is that instant gratification issue. They know or see that they can't do anything to the quality they ...

Re: Advanced throw for turnouts
Bill Hays has a simple design for some turnouts at Michigan Central. For the most part, it is a couple of lengths of plastic pipe (1/2" I think) and twisting it (the end has a elbow and short piece) operates the turnout. The elbow end is heal about 30" up by a post. Seeing which way the el...

Motor control for 1" locos with good MU capability
We're looking for something to upgrade locos that have original motor controls in RS-3 and F7 units. Key hope is something that is simple to connect, like nothing more than chaining the throttle bus between units. Also something that works with remote control would be another plus. Last time I was r...

Re: 3/4-inch scale B&O P7d Cincinnatian
Found an article about the track pans. At 80 MPH, 17 seconds gave 6000 gallons picked up. Most track pans were 1200-2000' long.

Article gives some history but mostly the reports of what they were observing in the 40's.

I only met Harold twice and it was before I knew what a treasure he was.

Re: 3/4-inch scale B&O P7d Cincinnatian
Harold told a story of what happened when a turtle got scooped up. This was the NYC mainline near Newark NY. The train ran a bit and suddenly the flow from the tender stopped. They couldn't figure it out so they stopped to find out why. At some point they cycled the valves and water resumed. This re...

Well, do you have your golden spike ready? Or for your track construction, would a golden screw be the right choice? Looks like it will be real soon now. Don't forget pictures or video of the event.

I'd also say you are headed close enough to White Creek in MI to consider that too as a stop. Say hi to Jim when you get the Big Creek and Southern.

Re: Custom Locomotive interest?
Well I would say that the whole 4 3/4" gauge market is underserved. There are sources for many locos in the 7 1/4" and 7 1/2" gauge world. But as for the size of that market, it is less likely to be not considered very large. But here I think Friends is the only one offering any casti...
